DIAMOND RIO AND THE CHARLIE DANIELS BAND 7/14/12
For most, just one hit record would fulfill a lifetime of dreams, which makes Diamond Rio’s accomplishments all that more significant. Fifteen years ago, they too were hoping for just one hit.
When the band introduced their debut single, “Meet In The Middle”, they kept their fingers crossed that it would reach country musics’s Top 20 – maybe even the Top 10. That wasn’t enough: The song went all the way to #1, making them the first country group in history to top the chart with a debut single. They piled on enough successive hits to warrant a Greatest Hits album and now, 15 years into their career, Diamond Rio has taken that trip up the national charts so many times that the band is looking at ….gulp….GREATEST HITS II, a landmark that seems almost insane when the band reflects on the odds. Some of their hits include “Meet in the Middle”, “Beautiful Mess”, “One More Day”, “Unbelievable”, “That’s What I Get for Loving You”, “How Your Love Makes Me Feel”, “Love a Little Stronger”, and many more!!
Charlie Daniels is partly Western and partly Southern. His signature “bull rider” hat and belt buckle, his lifestyle on Twin Pines Ranch (a boyhood dream come true), his love of horses, cowboy lore and the heroes championship rodeo, identify him as a Westerner. The son of a lumberjack and a Southerner by birth, his music – rock, country, bluegrass, blues, gospel – is quintessentially Southern.
It hasn’t been so much of a style of music, but more the values consistently reflected in several styles that have connected Charlie Daniels with millions of fans. For decades, he has steadfastly refused to label his music anything other than “CDB” music, music that has been popularized on a variety of radio formats.
“When it gets right down to the nitty gritty, I’ve just tried to be who I am. I’ve never followed trends or fads. I couldn’t even if I tried. I can’t be them; I can’t be anybody but me. CDB music is purely American music with something for everyone. At least that what I’ve hoped for in my 50+ years in music” – Charlie Daniels
Hits include: “The Deveil Went Down to Georgia”, “The South’s Gonna Do It Again”, “Stroker’s Theme”, “Uneasy Rider”, “Let It Roll”, “Long Haired Country Boy”, and many more!!!
